You do not always require a pickle fork for when replacing suspension parts like ball joints and outer tie rods. While it’s nice to have the correct tool ball joint separator to have (especially the version for air hammers), usually you can ball joint or tie rod end from the pipe joint with a few properly placed hammer blows of a big break.
First, make sure the vehicle is properly supported in a way that would allow part removal and safety. Then remove any split pins, and make attaching note about halfway. When removing ball joints, it’s best to leave the note in case there are any unexpected spring tension on the control weapon.
After the ball joint breaks loose in the joint and load all of the note, then you can finish removal. In order to break loose, you do not directly concern on the part, before you seek the hammer blows that part of the joint where the nail on the part run by the joint. The joint and nail down a concave shape and have a real grip even when the note is removed. By touching the joint slightly distorts the fit that the version of the parts causes.
